Bayern struggling in rich world
AFP, Munich
Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness claims the four-time European champions will be unable to compete for the big prizes for much longer if they cannot find a way of increasing revenue. Bayern trail Chelsea 4-2 ahead of Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Olympic Stadium and Hoeness claims investors such as Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's Russian billionaire owner, make it hard to compete. "If Abramovich continues to pump 50 or 100 million euros into the club then this match with Chelsea could be our last realistic chance to reach our goal," admitted Hoeness. "In the long-run we will not be able to remain competitive. We have no chance against Chelsea's money machine. Abramovich seems to be printing bank notes at home." Bayern claim they do not want a wealthy investor to take over the club but are aware that inferior television revenue is harming them and all of Germany's top teams. "If it carries on like this I am sceptical for the whole of German football," added Hoeness
