Manik Saha Murder Case
Court orders further investigation

The Speedy Trial Tribunal, Khulna, on Monday ordered further investigation into journalist Manik Saha murder case.

Judge Mohammad Abdus Samad passed the order on a petition submitted on Thursday by Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) SM Abu Zafar, seeking further investigation into the case.

The SPP in his petition stated that several faults were detected in the charge-sheet, which are enough to complicate fair trial of the murder case.

According to a tribunal source, the investigation officer (IO) of the case did not mention in the charge-sheet the names of the real witnesses to the murder committed on June 15 last year near Khulna Press Club. Besides, he said, the names of the masterminds behind the murder were also left out of the charge-sheet submitted to court on June 20 last year accusing 12 outlaws.

Of the 12 chargesheeted accused, four are now in Khulna district jail, six are absconding and the remaining two died in crossfire incidents last year.

Meanwhile, Khulna journalists have rejected the charge-sheet demanding a fair investigation into Manik Saha murder case.
