Justice Kamal for creation of BCS (legal) cadre

Law Commission Chairman Justice Mostafa Kamal yesterday suggested creating a BCS (legal) cadre, so that officers from the legal cadre can be employed in any other organisation as law officers in order to curtail the prospect of deputation of the judges from the active judiciary.

He made the suggestion while speaking as the chair of a regional consultation on the 'Review of Legal System in Bangladesh' at the auditorium of Premier University. The commission in collaboration with the Canadian International Development Agency (Cida) organised the event.

Speakers at the meeting proposed forming a 'national body' to supervise the implementation of the recommendations of the Law Commission with regard to the legal education.

Prof Shah Alam of Chittagong University presented a keynote paper and Vice-Chancellor of the Premier University Prof Anwarul Azim Arif gave a welcome address.

Lawyers, judges, teachers and members of civil society attended the meeting.
