Hundreds swindled on job promises
Two decamp with lakhs of taka in Satkhira


Two persons defrauded hundreds of youths in the name of an insurance company in Kolaroa and decamped with several lakh taka collected from them.

Police and some of the victims said they had opened Kolaroa branch of the company last year, identifying themselves as its Assistant Programme Director and Zonal Manager respectively.

They took Tk 15,000 to Tk 30,000 from unemployed youths promising them jobs under the company's Deposit Pension Scheme (DPS).

Several hundred people, cheated by the two frauds, are now crowding the office of the company every day. Kolaroa police confirmed this but said none of the victims have filed any case.

Talking to this correspondent, one of the victims, Kazi Abdul Mazid, son of Kazi Abdul Monsur of Tulshidanga village in Kalaroa, said he deposited Tk 20,000 to the two persons and they appointed him Accountant at the Kalaroa branch of the company at a monthly salary of Tk 2,850. But they did not pay him in several months.

Another victim, Sheikh Abdul Ahad, son of Sheikh Golam Mostafa of Jhhapa village, said they took Tk 20,000 from him as security money and appointed him Field Officer. But he did not get any salary.

The cheats also took Tk 15,000 to Tk 20,000 each from Nasima Khatun of Patharghata, Abdul Hamid of Baikari, Akhtaruzzaman of Nathupur, Azizur rahman of Murarikati, Farida Begum and Rabiul Islam of Tulshidanga, Sheikh Shariful Islam, Milan, Nayan and Ashraf Ali of Jhhapa in Kolaroa and Salma Khatun of Barandali in Keshabpur upazila in Jessore promising them jobs.
