‘Akhaura most suitable land port for trade with India’s 7 states’


Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Veena Sikri has said Akhaura land port is the most suitable point for export-import between Bangladesh and the seven north-eastern states of India.

She said this while visiting the land port on Monday. She saw different installations and later in the evening held talks with customs officials, C&F agents and leaders of Brahmanbaria Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the local circuit house.

She said informal barriers in the way of bilateral trade will be removed though high-level talks. Tripura Industry and Commerce Secretary Radha Ranjan Das accompanied the High Commissioner during the visit and talks.

Chittagong Customs Commissioner Moinul Hossain Khan and officials of Akhaura land port C&F agents Association were also present at the talks. She said Bangladeshi cement goes to India through this port.

Yesterday, she was accorded a reception at the Sur Samrat Ustad Alauddin Sangitangan in the town. She was accompanied by Tripura Trade and Industry Minister Radha Ranjan Das and Indian HC official Mita Bhushan.

Speaking on the occasion, she said people of Bangladesh and India can benefit more from closer cooperation as the two nations share a common culture and heritage.

Veena Sikri presented 12 musical instruments to the Alauddin Sangitangan.
