'Owners indifferent to safety of workers'

More than one thousand garments workers were killed in different accidents at their workplaces in the last five years, but the garments factory owners and the government still remain indifferent to the safety of the workers, said CPB leaders at a rally yesterday.

They also described the deaths of workers in the nine-storied garment factory collapse in Savar as 'murders'.

The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) organised the rally at Muktangan in the city.

The garments owners construct strong and luxurious houses for their own use but make 'death traps' for the workers, the leaders said.

CPB President Manzurul Ahsan Khan, MM Akash, Syed Abu Jafar Ahmed, Ahsan Habib Lablu, Sahidulla Chowdhury, Morshed Ali, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Dilip Bepari and Kulsum Begum addressed the rally.
