Outlaw killed in 'crossfire' in Kushtia

A top cadre of outlawed Gono Mukti Fouz was killed in a 'crossfire' between police and his accomplices at Thanapara area of the district town early Friday. Detective Branch (DB) police arrested Enamul Haq alias Ena from Mazampur of the town on Thursday night. Quizzed by the DB, Ena admitted to his involvement with the outfit and possession of arms kept hidden at various locations in Kushtia. As a police team reached Renwick embankment area in Thanapara with Ena at about 3:30pm to recover the firearms, Ena's aides ambushed police, prompting them to retaliate, police said. Trying to escape from the police van during the hour-long gunfight, Ena got caught in 'crossfire' and died on the spot, police said, adding that Ena, 32, was an accused in several cases including one for murder. The body was sent to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.
