22 wounded as businessmen clash with cops in Kurigram


At least 22 people were injured in a clash between businessmen and the police of Raumari upazila of the district yesterday.

Sources said the businessmen became furious when they were fined at 10:00am by a mobile court led by the Raumari upazila nirbahi officer (UNO). They damaged the office and residence of the UNO and set his official jeep ablaze.

The police fired several times yesterday noon to quell the agitating businessmen.

Shahinur, Akbar and Rashedul, each aged 15, Dulu and Rana, both 14 years old, Jahidul, 16, Lalmia, 25, Rubel, 22 and Helal, 20, were among the seriously injured. The injured were admitted to hospitals including Raumari Upazila Health Complex.

Several police teams from the neighbouring upazilas of Rajibpur, Chitmari and Ulipur, and from the Police Line and Dhushmara Police Station along with the BDR have been deployed in the area.
