Four arrestees on remand, one sent to jail

A Dhaka court placed four youths on a five-day remand and sent another to jail yesterday after they were arrested on charge of killing a school headmistress.Shahnaz Kabir Lily, 35, headmistress of Ashuliya Government Primary School, was stabbed to death by a gang of robbers at her Kamarpara house in Uttara on Sunday morning. Uttara police arrested the five youths -- Ibrahim alias Emu, 24, Abdur Rashed, 20, Md Sharif, 20, Rabiul Islam, 24, and Abdur Rahim, 20, -- on Sunday and produced them before the chief metropolitan magistrate's court, Dhaka at 2:30pm yesterday. Police also prayed for a ten-day remand for the youths except Rahim as he was supposed to give confessional statement before the magistrate, police said. But Rahim declined to give any confessional statement and the magistrate sent him to jail.
