Ahmadiyya Mosque Siege in Satkhira
Admin, police slated for backing bigots

Workers' Party (WP) leaders in a statement here yesterday condemned the fixing of a signboard by bigots with the help of police on the wall of Ahmadiyya Mosque at Sundarban Bazaar in Shyamnagar upazila.

They severely crtiticised the role of administration and police when an Ahmadiyya Mosque was besieged by bigots on Sunday.

A statement signed by Satkhira district unit Workers' Party Secretary advocate Mustafa Lutfullah told that repression on Ahmadiyyas increased in recent time. The situation worsened due to government's inaction and direct and indirect patronisation to bigots, the statement said.

'Inaction by the law enforcement authorities has resulted in patronisation to bigots', the press release said.

Different organisations alerted the administration through media about the incident on April 17, but it yielded no result, WP leaders said.

In another statement, the civil society members said, the law enforcers might have taken pre-emptive measures to protect Ahmadiyyas. They said the activists of Khatme Nabuat Movement could not reach the Ahmadiyya mosque if police resisted them on time.

Signatories to the statement are: Principal Asit Kumar Majumdar, Principal Asheq E-Elahi, Prof Abu Ahmed, Kalyaan Banerjee,

Kamruzzaman and Sheikh Hassanuzzaman. Satkhira district unit of of Communist Party, JSD, Satkhira Nagarik Samaj, Shahid Smriti Pathagar, Prajanma '71 and various organisations in separate statements also condemned the heinous attack on Ahmadiyyas.
