10 out of 14 UP chairmen boycott Jamaat MP in Satkhira

A Jamaat lawmaker faces no-confidence from 10 out of 14 Union Parishad (UP) chairmen in Sadar upazila for his alleged involvement in corruption and nepotism.

They brought the allegations against Maulana Abdul Khaleq Mondol MP in a joint statement issued recently.

They decided to boycott him socially if he fails to submit a list of projects and names of the persons to whom he allotted money during the last 41 months.

The statement said the 'corrupt' lawmaker participated only in two monthly meetings of the Upazila Developmentl Co-ordination Committee in last three and a half years. As a result, development activities in the upazila are being hampered, it said.

The UP chairmen complained that the lawmaker ignored the consent of the chairmen and distributed allotted money for development work through Jamaat men,the statement added.

They further alleged the lawmaker distributed 1,000 bundles of corrugated iron sheets and 4,000 sarees and lungis among the Jamaat activists.

Moreover, he intervened in the administrative activities and threatened the officials of transfering them at will who would not abide by him.

Signatories to the statement include: Alipur UP chairman Abdur Rouf, Labsa UP chairman Abdul Alim, Brahmmarajpur UP chairman Shahidul Islam and others. All the chairmen belong to ruling BNP. When contacted with Abdul Khaleq MP, he denied his involvement in the corrupt practices and nepotism.
