Seven receive Meena Media Awards

Seven young media producers were awarded 'Meena Media Awards' in the city yesterday for their outstanding productions for and about children.

The Unicef and Singapore-based Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) jointly awarded the young talents at a ceremony at the Bengal Art Gallery in Dhanmondi.

The awardees are Shahi-duzzaman Badal, Hezera Khanam, Shetu, Md Anward Hussain, Arjo Srestha, Rowshan Ara Rukhshana Sarker and Sardar Joynul Abedin.

Unicef Country Representative Morten Giersing gave away the award.

Each winner was presented with a cheque worth Tk 50,000, a crest and a certificate of appreciation.

The winning entries, out of a total of 187, are 'Sabujer Deshe', 'Seema, the eight-year girl', 'My travel to Europe', 'Eso Shikhi Barnamala', 'Taste lone story' and 'Amrao Pari', which earlier received the prestigious Emmy award.

The Meena Media Award is a new initiative to promote excellence in children's media productions and bring recognition to such quality productions and their producers.

The award will be given every year.
