NDF rejoinder, our reply
In a rejoinder to a report headlined '600 JCD men watch Ctg Election' published in The Daily Star on May 6, President of National Democratic Foundation (NDF) Dr Assaduzzaman Ripon disclaimed engaging 600 Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) men in monitoring the May 9 Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls.Ripon, who claimed to have resigned from the JCD, ruling BNP's student wing, back in 1989 and have never joined BNP, also said the NDF engaged 600 members only for pre-poll monitoring. "We'll have mobile election observers' team of 10 members," he said. OUR REPLY The NDF president sent the rejoinder to The Daily Star office in Dhaka yesterday claiming to have engaged 600 members only in pre-poll monitoring. But a press release signed by him and sent to The Daily Star office in Chittagong the same day said the NDF would hold an orientation course at a Chittagong hotel today. The course is to be held for NDF poll observers, one each at every polling centre, and also for its mobile poll observation and media advocacy teams, said the release. There are 577 polling centres in the CCC polls. Moreover, Returning Officer for the CCC Polls Golam Quddus has denied receiving application from the NDF.
