Bac director Hannan stand-released

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday stand-released Lt Col Abdul Hannan Mridha, a director of now defunct Bureau of Anti Corruption (Bac) as he continued to work even after his earlier withdrawal from Bac where he was appointed on deputation and later temporarily attached to the ACC.

The establishment ministry issued a notification on April 26 that said Hannan Mridha had been sent to the Armed Forces Division for his next posting.

Hannan, however, continued his work in the Bac office that created an adverse reaction among the former Bac staff and the ACC.

The stand release order that reached Hannan Mridha at around 2:00pm said he was released from Bac and the ACC in the afternoon yesterday.

The copies of the stand release order were also sent to the secretary of the cabinet division, secretary of the establishment ministry, principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division and senior finance comptroller (Army).

Despite a government warning of punishment for using the non-existent post and involving former Bac staff in the commission, Hannan issued several office orders and notices arrogating to himself the position of ACC director that created resentment in the commission.

Earlier in January the anticorrupiton watchdog asked the government to withdraw five former Bac directors including Hannan, saying that they were hampering ACC's work.

There are allegations of corruption against some ex-Bac officials including Hannan Mridha, ACC sources said, adding that the ACC is now collecting information about the officials concerned and contemplating probing into the allegations.
