JS session starts today

Parliament goes into session today afternoon when obituary reference at the deaths of main Opposition Awami League (AL) lawmaker and veteran politician Abdus Samad Azad and ruling BNP lawmaker Shamsuddin Ahmed Eshak will be adopted.

AL will decide whether they will join the session after discussing the matter at the working committee meeting this morning, said a senior AL lawmaker.

The AL boycotted the last session and did not join the obituary reference at the death of their lawmaker and former finance minister Shah AM S Kibria as the speaker denied adjourning the House after adopting the obituary reference.

The much talked about bill proposing a blanket immunity to the World Bank regarding its operations in Bangladesh is likely to be passed in this session as a parliamentary body has already okayed the bill for passing.

Meanwhile, Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar hinted that the session will be a very short one and new session will be summoned for the budget of the next fiscal year.

Finance and Planning Minister M Saifur Rahman earlier said he would place the budget before the House on June 9.
