Tumpa, Rinu lift doubles title


Tumpa and Rinu upset their Bangladesh Ansar teammates Soma and Saleha to lift the women's doubles title of the Meril 27th National Table Tennis Cham-pionships yesterday.

Tumpa and Rinu won the first set 11-4 in an all-Ansars final at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur but favourites Saleha and Soma took a 2-1 lead winning the next sets 11-8 and 11-7. The last two sets, however, went to Tumpa and Rinu who won 11-6, 11-7 to wrap up the exciting final.

Earlier in the semifinals, the Tumpa-Rinu duo blanked Jemi and Munni of Gaibandha 4-0 while Saleha and Soma eliminated Biman's Rumi and Ratna by same margin.

Ansars continued to dominate the tables as Rockey and Helal won the boys' doubles crown beating Bangladesh Biman pair Rimon and Rahat 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-8 and 11-4.
