Woman dies due to wrong treatment in Khulna
Doctor arrested

A woman died due to wrong treatment by a doctor in Khulna on Tuesday night.

The victim was identified as Shahina Islam alias Iti, 30, wife of Shafiqul Islam, a UD assistant of Dhaka University Library.

Shahina died when she was operated upon by Dr Abu Zafar at his Raj Clinic at Baitypara with the help of a hurricane-lantern due to load shedding of electricity.

Shahina was admitted to the clinic on Tuesday morning as a patient of tonsillitis.

As the news of death spread, the clinic housed in the ground floor of a four-storied building came under attack by angry mob.

Khulna thana police rushed to the clinic and arrested Dr Zafar and his assistant Enayet Ali.

Police also sealed off the clinic which was being run without legal authority, said SI Maruf of Khulna thana who is investigating the case.

Shafiqul yesterday lodged an FIR naming Dr Zafar and his assistant as accused for killing her wife by wrong treatment.

When asked at the police station, Dr Zafar said the woman died of heart attack.

"I did not do any wrong using a hurricane during a surgical operation as I did it earlier in many cases," he added.
