Two youths shot in city

Unidentified criminals yesterday shot two youths in Kalabagan in the capital.

The injured are Kazi Mostafa Iqbal Guddu, son of Manjila Faruque, former protocol officer of then prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and his friend Shahriar Amin Shyama.

Family sources said three men stormed the ground floor of an under construction building at Lake Circus Kalabagan where the two friends were gossiping at about 7:30pm. The attackers shot them indiscriminately and left the scene blasting a few crackers.

Their friend Ashiq Abdullah, son of former chief whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah, was also there but he left the place five minutes before the attack, they said.

Guddu with bullets in his legs, chest and back was undergoing treatment at Pangu hospital (National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation) last night. His friend was admitted to a city clinic.

Dhanmondi police could not give details about the incident.

Manjila told The Daily Star last night that about 20 people attacked her house in Shyamoli and vandalised her car on May 1. She said unknown people also threatened her over telephone, but she could not name anyone.
