Afro-Asian cricket body formed

The Asian Cricket Council and African Cricket Association have joined hands to form Afro-Asian Cricket Cooperation (AACC) on Friday with Syed Ashraful Huq of Bangladesh as its convener to promote the game in the two continents.

Huq, who is also ACC chief executive, said ACC chief Jagmohan Dalmiya has been elected AACC chairman and Africal Cricket Asso-ciation President Peter Chingoka is its vice chairman.

The first programme of the AACC would be to hold at least one one-day international series between Asia Eleven and Africa Eleven every year. Ten per cent of the revenue from the ODIs would go to charity.

For development of cricket in Asia and Africa, there will be regular exchange of umpires, coaches and curators between the two continents and "we will emerge as a stronger cricketing force as a result of this cooperation," according to Huq.

He expressed the hope that AACC will be a symbol of unity which will help develop cricket in Asia and Africa through representative age-group matches in tournaments organized by the new body.

A committee has been formed comprising three representatives each from ACC and ACA to promote the game in the two continents.
