Ruling party men foil PIB workshop in Lalmonirhat
BDNEWS, Lalmonirhat
A training workshop of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) was foiled yesterday as it was organised without informing a ruling party leader. During the attack, the perpetrators hurled abusive language to the PIB Director General Dr Rezwan Ahmed Siddiqui and trainers of the workshop. The attackers forced the participants to leave the workshop venue. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Babul Chandra Roy rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Rezwan Siddiqui left Lalmonirhat at 1:00pm under police escort. A total of 20 journalists were supposed to take part in a discussion on 'Report on Women and Children' as part of the three-day workshop, organised to promote quality journalism here after 33 long years at the local LGED auditorium. Jewel, an associate of an influential leader, infamous as 'Boro Bhai', in the locality, along with his associates, went to the venue posing as a journalist. They began to shower abusive words on the PIB DG and the trainers for not informing him earlier and for not giving opportunities to his men. At one stage they tried to start attacking them. On information, the ADC went to the spot and brought the situation under control. An additional police force has been deployed in the area.
