Declare nat'l programme immediately to oust govt
Inu urges opposition parties

Leaders of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) at a discussion yesterday called upon all the opposition political parties to declare a national programme, including the reform proposals for election commission and caretaker government, immediately as part of their oust-government movement.

They also urged the political parties to direct the movement from one platform, instead of separate simultaneous programmes.

"Opposition political parties should not expect any partisan profit, rather they should concentrate on a stronger unity among themselves in order to bring about a positive change," said JSD President Hasanul Huq Inu.

The discussion on 'Ongoing oust-government movement: some emergency questions', was organised by JSD city unit at Shaheed Colonel Taher Auditorium at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

"Only unity among the pro-democratic and pro-liberation war parties could make a major change in the political mathematics of the country," Inu said.

Speaking as the chief guest, he said the movement is not merely for the change of power, but for the change of the fate of the countrymen.

"There will be no national election without the reforms in election commission and caretaker government system."

He pointed out several specific programmes that include formation of permanent pay commission, introduction of a national minimum wage for the workers, subsidy in agriculture, compulsory military education for all after higher secondary education, bringing transparency in defense sector, direct election for the women, extension of small credit disbursement programme for small and medium industries.

Referring to the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls, Inu said people in Chittagong have proved that the BNP-Jamaat alliance government failed to rule the country as per people's expectation.

JSD leader Mainuddin Khan Badal said opposition political parties should take lessons from the CCC polls. "People in Chittagong foiled all conspiracies of the government to rig votes by playing their roles as vanguard on the poll night."

He noted that the result of CCC polls would be reflected in the national election, as the people from all parts of the country contributed to the polls result in the port city.

The leaders severely criticised the government for the killings in crossfire, price hikes of essentials, assassinations of several top AL leaders, deterioration of law and order situation and rise of religious bigotry in the country.

JSD city unit President Mir Hossain presided over the discussion while Joint General Secretary presented the keynote paper.

JSD leaders Alhajj Ataur Rahman, Nurul Islam Dhalu, Abul Hossain, Md Nurunnabi and MS Alam also addressed the discussion.
