The victim, identified as Sultan Ahmed, 48, was the night guard of Fakirhat Bazaar in Mekhal Union of the upazila. Shopkeeper Badiul Alam and his employee Ridwan Ahmad, injured in the attack by the gang, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), police said.

The incident took place at around 2:00am yesterday. The armed gang first stabbed Sultan indiscriminately and then stormed the bazaar to commit robbery. They broke into the department shop of Mahbub Alam and again stabbed Badiul and Ridwan and took away around Tk 1 lakh in cash from the shop, police sources added.

Local people rushed Sultan to the CMCH in a critical condition where the doctors declared him dead at around 6:00am.

Mahbub filed a case in this connection with the Hathazari Police Station yesterday morning.
