The bridge has been closed to traffic since August 16 last year for renovation work.

According to a Bangladesh Railway (BR) press release, the repair work of the bridge are now on the final stage.

BR Director General A F M Mostafizur Rahman yesterday visited the bridge to see the progress of the renovation work and asked the officials concerned to correct some faults, which have already been identified, within the stipulated period.

High officials of the BR Eastern Zone, including General Manager Sultan Ahmed Talukder and Chief Engineer Habib Ahmed, were also present.

The bridge was built in 1931 for establishing rail communications between the port city and the Dohazari section.
