Polls with fanfare


Election of Bogra Motor Shramik Union, the second largest transport worker's organization in the country, was held yesterday amid great fanfare. Pooling was held peacefully on Bogra Zila School premises.

The Mozammul Haque Lalu, Editor of local daily The Karotoa, who was in charge of conducting the elections, said 52 booths were opened for 10,293 voters.

He also told newsmen that the budget for the election was Tk three lakh.

Three candidates including former president of the union Abdul Mannan Mitu ran in the race for the post of president.

Abdul Latif, Mostafizar Rahman Badsha and Syed Kabir Ahmmed Mitu were candidates for the post of general secretary.

A total of 109 candidates contested for 16 posts.

Some transport workers' leaders claimed that over Tk three crore was spent for election campaign by the 109 candidates.

Polling started at 8 am and continue till 5 pm with out any beak.

Colorful poster were pasted on wall in the town and banners hung on roads. At least 1000 vehicles were engaged for the election campaign, sources said.

Result of the election will be declared on Sunday, sources said.
