Eminent lawyer Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday called for taking a firm stand against the defeated forces who are now out to break the unity of the pro-liberation forces. "People are now forging unity like the days of the liberation war, and we must keep vigilance to foil all conspiracies against this unity," he added. Dr Kamal was speaking at a condolence meeting, organised by Mujibnagar O Muktijuddho Officers-Karmochari Kendrio Kalyan Samity in memory of Lt General Jagjit Singh Aurora, commander of Bangladesh-India joint forces in 1971, at the National Museum in the city. He said the nation would remember the great hero for his contribution to achieving the country's independence. "We have to write a real history of the liberation war where the name of Aurora will be inscribed in golden letter," he added. Dr Kamal said, "December 16 is the most glorious day for the nation, but it hurts me severely when I see the war criminals in the functions of the Victory Day." Names of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Commander of the joint forces General Aurora cannot be erased from the history of Bangladesh, said Colonel (retd) Abu Osman Chowdhury. Speakers at the meeting also slated the government for not observing state mourning at the sad demise of Aurora.
