16 UPDF men arrested in Khagrachhari


Police arrested 16 leaders and workers of anti-peace accord United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) yesterday, in connection with the shootout at Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) office in Khagrachhari.

Police said, they recovered a pistol and five bullets from their possession during the arrest from UPDF office at Shanirvar area of the district town following a case filed by PCJSS. Police, however, did not provide their identities.

A group of assailants sprayed bullets at the PCJSS office at the Chengi Square area on Sunday morning leaving one of its workers Shimul Tripura, 22, wounded. PCJSS blamed UPDF for the attack and lodged a case.

Meanwhile, seven UPDF workers, who were kidnapped Saturday, are yet to be rescued. UPDF accused PCJSS of kidnapping its seven workers.
