Cannot we do better?

There seems to be a culture of "break, burn and destroy" pervading in our country. During hartals, vehicles are burned and people are attacked for trying to earn their daily bread. Vehicles are burned or damaged whenever a person gets hit (in most cases the cars attacked have nothing to do with the accident). A few days back, a reader (Storming of Embassy, Sajjad, May 11) called for breaking and looting Bangladeshi embassies abroad. Where does this cycle of destruction lead us to?

I would like to know whether all our fellow citizens who gleefully burn cars, break computers, and attack poor rickshaw-pullers have ever tried to channel their energy to something constructive. Or is that they can only break what others have made?
