English version of textbooks
Nusrat Rashida Jahangirnagar University
The education boards introduced the English version of the traditional curriculum 10 years ago. Viqarunnesa Noon School &College is the pioneer but at present, it is being followed in other institutions like Ideal School &College, Saint Joseph, all Cadet Colleges, Biam, Scholars etc.For those who do not know about this system, I would like to tell that these students study the same books as per board instructions and also sit for S.S.C & H.S.C. exams. The only difference is that, they study & answer in English. But it is a matter of sorrow that, 1997 was the only year when books for classes VI--X were published. From then on, the books were never edited, whereas the Bengali books are edited every year. As a result, the students are bound to read these books with printing mistakes &old information. Moreover, translated commerce books are also not available. Then also they are lucky, as they at least get books to study. The students of intermediate have no English translated books. They have to study from Bengali books, need to make their own notes in English and then sit for exams. The only materials they get in English are the question papers. The negligence continues in case of admit cards, registration cards, academic transcripts, board certificates & testimonials of board exams. As a result, after studying hard all these years without proper study materials, we, the English Medium students end up with zero recognition. We hope that, the education board will show their consciousness on the matter by issuing the above stated board papers with 'English Medium' mentioned on them from this year onward & take care about the availability of English version books for the students.
