Road accidents
Syed Moniruzzaman Karlstad University, Sweden
During recent years, there has been a sharp increase in road accidents in Bangladesh. It is argued that compared with the magnitude of the problem, there has been relatively little information on road accidents and their consequences, and it could be regarded as a neglected area. However, road accidents cause substantial numbers of deaths in the country and hundreds of people are crippled. Most often people are victims of minibus and truck accidents. Also a large chunk of the population, especially children, are injured while walking on the streets, particularly in some areas of the city. The number of such accidents in the city is much higher than what could be considered unavoidable.
