A prisoner yesterday complained before a Dhaka court that deputy jailer and jail guard of Kashimpur jail in Gazipur, had been torturing him in the jail for the last three months.Mohammad Shariful Islam, a convict in an arms case and accused in another arms case, yesterday showed evidence, marks of bruises all over his body, before the Judge Mohammad Shamsul Alam Khan of the First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court. Shariful, jailed on October 9, 2003 for 24 years' rigorous imprisonment for possessing illegal arms and ammunition, said in his written petition that he was shifted to Kashimpur Jail on February 25 this year. Since then deputy jailer Mohammad Reza and jail guard Mohammad Kalim tortured him physically on different excuses, he said. The two also threatened to kill him. So he sought security of his life and prayed for taking actions against them, Shariful added. After hearing both the sides, Judge Mohammad Shamsul Alam Khan fixed tomorrow for order on the issue. Advocate Jahangir Alam moved the petition on behalf of the accused. Deputy Jailer Reza denying the allegations against him told The Daily Star that Shariful brought false charges against him terming those 'baseless'.
