Resentment over move to promote non-cadre policemen

An alleged move to promote 37 non-cadre policemen to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) by superceding the senior ones has sparked tension among the senior officials.Eight policemen of the 15th BCS batch (police cadre), representing the seniors, met the inspector general of police on Wednesday and demanded justice, sources said. The police department has submitted a list of the 37 policemen along with another list of BCS police officers to the Departmental Promotion Committee of the home ministry for the promotion. The committee will sit tomorrow to decide on the recommendation. Meanwhile, Barrister Abdur Razzaq, on behalf of three police officials of the 15th BCS batch, issued a legal notice on the secretaries of establishment and home ministries, the IGP and joint secretary of the police, calling on them to refrain from taking any decision to promote departmental promotees by treating them senior to BCS cadre officers.
