Gun battles in Kashmir villages kill 5 people

Three Indian soldiers and two Islamic militants were killed and four soldiers wounded in two separate clashes yesterday in remote villages of Indian-administered Kashmir, police said. One gun battle left two Islamic militants and an Indian army soldier dead in the northern Kupwara district Thursday morning. Four soldiers were wounded. "The fighting is continuing and reinforcements have been sent to the area," the police spokesman said.
