A host of current national players crowded the Bangladesh A team for the upcoming tour of England when the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-member squad yesterday. As many as nine current national players were picked including left-handed batsman Shahriar Nafees Ahmed, who is now touring England with the national side, being named captain. The strong second-string national team is scheduled to leave Dhaka on July 15 to play five three-day and four one-day games against different county selections during their month-long trip. Nafees Iqbal, Tushar Imran, Aftab Ahmed, wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, Anwar Hossain Monir, Talha Jubair, Shahadat Hossain Rajib and Enamul Haque were the other members selected to visit England for the successive second occasion The team also boosted by three discarded national players -- middle-order batsman Alok Kapali, all-rounder Mushfiqur Rahman and left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak Raj. On the other hand, when the place of Golam Rahman, the highest run-getter in the National League, and Alamgir Kabir, top wicket-taker in the four-day competition, looked almost confirmed, the selectors only selected three players -- middle order batsmen Nazimuddin, Hasanuzzaman and left-arm pacer SK Russel based on their national league performances. Earlier, chief selector Faruque Ahmed hinted that the top performers of the National League would be considered when they announced the team. But it now seems that idea was changed following the dismal show of the senior team in England. Three limited-overs and a three-day trial matches were held at the BKSP to form the Bangladesh A team. Alok Kapali, Tushar Imran and Mushfiqur Rahman led different selections but finally young Shahriar Nafees got the nod.
