The 1995 African, European and World Footballer of the Year, who reached his peak with AC Milan between 1995 and 2000, ended his European career four years ago with Olympique Marseille after spells with Monaco, Paris St Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City.

He then played for Al Jazirah in the United Arab Emirates.

"I'm no longer a professional player but football is still part of my life," said the 38-year-old, who plans to contest the presidential election due in Liberia by October.

France's Zinedine Zidane, 2004 European Footballer of the Year Andrei Shevchenko and Chelsea's Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba all accepted Weah's invitation.

"He's an example all over Africa," said Drogba.

"I was too young to play with him so this farewell match is a dream come true for me."
