Announcement of summit to add impetus to Saarc process

Bangladesh yesterday said the much-awaited announcement of the dates for 13th Saarc Summit in Dhaka will infuse new impetus to the slowed down process of South Asian Regional Cooperation."I think the announcement of the summit will add spirit and impetus to the Saarc process which was unfortunately postponed twice," Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan told reporters at the airport before his departure for Doha to attend the ministerial meeting of the second South Summit. Current Saarc chair Pakistan on Saturday announced that the 13th Saarc Summit would take place in Dhaka on November 12-13. Morshed Khan said: "we hope some of the important agendas, including the SAFTA that was slowed down due to the postponement, would be put on track at Dhaka Summit." The pre-summit meetings will start with Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on November 9. Saarc Standing Committee comprising the foreign secretaries will meet on November 10 while Council of Ministers representing the foreign ministers will meet on November 11.
