Nation hails the heroes

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia hailed the Bangladesh cricket team on their scintillating victory over Australia in a one-day international in Cardiff yesterday.

"I congratulate the whole team and hope they bring more such wonderful wins in the coming days," the Prime Minister said in a message.

Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina also felicitated the victory. Now in England, the Awami League chief in a telephonic message said that beating the top cricket team in the world on English soil is a big achievement for the whole nation. She added that it gave similar delight to Bangladesh's defeat of Pakistan in the 1999 England World Cup.

Former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Saber Hossain Chowdhury, who is also accompanying Hasina, expressed his happiness over the remarkable victory.

Former Sports Minister Obaidul Quader, ex-national footballer and ex-BCB official Dewan Shafiul Arefin Tutul also congratulated the Tigers.

Former board president Raisuddin Ahmed also hailed the historic victory saying that it showed that Bangladesh will go a long way in international cricket.
