Body formed to probe death of Sagir's alleged murderer

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) yesterday formed a three-member committee to probe the killing of Shawon, the alleged murderer of Jubo Dal leader and criminal Sagir in Roy Shaheb Bazar in old Dhaka.

The committee members are Assistant Deputy Commissioner (South) Shahriar Rahman, Assistant Commissioner (AC, Ramna) Mainul Hoque and AC (Kotwali) Mustafizur Rahman.

Mystery shrouds the death of Shawon as newspapers reports quoting witnesses differed with the police version.

Kotwali police on June 24 said Shawon was injured in gunfight with criminals and later died in hospital.

Shawon's parents, however, said police nabbed him at Keraniganj two days before the incident. They questioned how Shawon could kill Sagir and flee when he was supposed to be in police custody. Police later picked up Shawon's parents for the comments, his brother alleged, an allegation denied by police.

The newspaper reports and photographs also prove that Shawon was uninjured when police nabbed him. Locals and Rab also supported in this version.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police told the press that Shawon died in gunfight with criminals, but police could not substantiate this version.
