Ex-Shibir man confesses to killing Belal

Ex-Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Ekhlasur Rahman Ekhlas, an accused of the killing of Khulna Metropolitan Journalists' Union president Sheikh Belaluddin, gave a confessional statement yesterday at the Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate's court. Police arrested Ekhlas, 31, from Rupsha ferry terminal area on yesterday morning. In his confessional statement Ekhlas said, five to seven people including himself, former Shibir leader Sahabuddin Laskar Dhira and outlawed party leader Iqbal Hossain Swadhin took part in the killing of Sheikh Belaluddin on February 5 this year. Police said Ekhlas is an associate of Dhira, the main accused in Belal murder case. Criminal Investigation Department arrested Dhira on July 5.
