Vaughan out of Trophy match

England captain Michael Vaughan was withdrawn Wednesday from Yorkshire's Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy quarterfinal against Northamptonshire this weekend.

Vaughan, 30, will miss Saturday's match at Headingley in a bid to ensure he remains fully fit for next week's first Ashes Test against Australia at Lord's.

"We need to ensure that there is no further deterioration to the groin strain that kept Michael out of two matches in the NatWest Series," said England and Wales Cricket Board chief medical officer Dr Peter Gregory.

"We are confident, however, that with rest Michael will be fully fit for the first npower Test at Lord's next week."against Leicestershire starting Friday.
