Ronaldo, Zidane donate $120,000 to Haiti

International football stars Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane made a 120,000-dollar donation to humanitarian projects in Haiti.

The money will be spent in Cite Soleil, a shantytown of about 300,000 people in Port-au-Prince, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) announced Tuesday.

It will go toward sewerage projects and improving health and education.

"I was particularly struck by the dignity of the Haitians and their clear desire to live in decent conditions, despite the difficulties they face," Brazilian striker Ronaldo was quoted as saying in a UNDP statement.

Ronaldo took part in a friendly soccer international between Haiti and Brazil in Port-au-Prince in August 2004.
