Gaus Qawwal and his group in Dhaka
Gaus Muhammad Nasir Niazi Qawwal and his group are here in Dhaka, says a press release. At the National Press Club last Tuesday, the Pakistani qawwali group expressed interest in performing for Bangladeshi listeners.The Qawwal group is visiting Bangladesh for the first time in response to an invitation by advocate Abul Kalam Azad. The group has been performing Qawwali for the last 17 years and has toured the UAE and India. A winner of the President (Pride of performance) Award and Taghma-e-Imtiaz Award of Pakistan, the other members of the group are Intezar Ahmed, Ishaq Khan, Taz Muhammad, Fayez Muhammad, Saad Muhammad, Shawkat Ali and Imran Ahmed. The popular group has released 50 audio albums so far. A street in Karachi was named Qawwal Street in honour of Gaus Muhammad Nasir Niazi Qawwal.
