PM to attend UNGA session in Sept

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is expected to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) sessions in New York in the middle of September, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign affairs said yesterday.The UNGA this year is likely to witness stormy session on the reforms of the 191-nation world body. Three separate groups are working on different options for the increase of membership of the powerful UN Security Council. A draft resolution jointly sponsored by Japan, Germany, Brazil and India known as Group-4 has already been tabled seeking to become permanent members of the Security Council. Besides, the African bloc has been seeking two permanent seats on the Security Council. The third one described as "United Consensus" group led by Pakistan, Argentina, Canada, Italy and Mexico, has made proposal for 10 new non-permanent Security Council members to be elected for two years, but with the provision for immediate reelection.
