Blue for Peace
Trial of Kibria killers demanded

People from various strata of society and the family members of slain former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria lined up on the road at Shahbagh in the city yesterday, demanding trial of the killers of Kibria.

Wearing blue dress, hundreds of people spontaneously joined the protest arranged under the 'Blue for Peace' programme, initiated by Asma Kibria, widow of Kibria.

Kibria, also an Awami League lawmaker, was killed in a grenade attack at Baidyerbazar in Habiganj on January 27.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Reza Kibria, son of the slain former finance minister, yesterday expressed his grave concern that the deputy commissioner of Habiganj, who has failed to provide security to Kibria, is yet to be withdrawn.

"While the prime minister herself pointed out that the administrative flaw is one of the reasons behind the killing, it is really mysterious that the DC has not been withdrawn as yet," he added.

The DC should be questioned as he did not ensure security for Kibria and cooperate in holding a fair investigation into the killing, Reza said.

He also sought the people's support for the movement initiated by his family to put an end to the killing culture in the country.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Obaidul Kader, Dhaka University Teachers' Association President AAMS Arefin Siddique, Asma Kibria, four sisters of Kibria -- Safia Rahman, Fouzia Shahed, Ashrafi Siddique and Sharifa Mosabbir -- and Reza

Kibria's wife Rina Sultana Kibria joined the programme.
