Rajshahi tense following arrest of 11 militants

Tension runs high in the city and its adjoining areas as police were kept on high alert yesterday following the arrest of 11 militants on Tuesday.

Huge police forces were deployed on the Rajshahi University campus which was used as recruiting centre by the militants that included two RU students.

Police stations and outposts were alerted to monitor the suspicious movement of other militants.

Sources said police are sure that the militants have modern arms, ammunitions and detonators.

Diaries and other papers seized from them suggest some people who have foreign warfare training are involved with the militants.

The documents also contained highly confidential combat techniques and some anti-US slogans.

Militant leader Enamul told the local interrogators that he collected the anti-US slogans from the audiocassette of one Moulana Ayen Uddin Al Azad of Naogaon.

The arrested militants are being quizzed at the joint interrogation cell (JIC) in Dhaka.
