The newly renovated Mohakhali Inter-District Bus Terminal opened yesterday with a view to providing better services to passengers.

Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka inaugurated the renovation work.

Khoka said with the inauguration of newly renovated Mohakhali bus terminal all, including passengers and transport service providers will be benefited. And it's the responsibility of all to protect the improvement works of the terminal, he said.

Mosaddeq Ali Falu MP and DCC Chief Executive Officer M Saifuddin Ahmad were present at the inaugural function.

The renovation work of three inter-district bus terminals was completed last month, one year behind the schedule, amid dissatisfaction among many with the flaws in renovation work. The work was schedule to be completed in June last year.

The Roads and Highways Department implemented the renovation work under the Dhaka Urban Transport Project (DUTP) at a cost of Tk 44.20 crore. The World Bank (WB) has funded the project coordinated by the Dhaka Transport Co-ordination Board (DTCB).

But the private terminal operators and bus counter men expressed their dissatisfaction over the faulty design of passenger sheds and security boundaries, poor quality of toilet fittings and tiles, narrow space for ticket counters and poor water supply lines.

Two other terminalsSayedabad and Gabtoli - will be inaugurated on July 24 and July 26, DCC sources said.
