The dead were identified as Younus Hawlader, 35, and Saju Mia, 45, of Goalnagar under Brahmanbaria district. The identity of the injured could not be known.

Sources said the incident occurred in the afternoon when a big chunk of earth from a nearby hill suddenly collapsed on a hut beside an under construction building, leaving two construction workers dead and two others injured. The construction workers were forced to stay at the hut due to heavy rain.

The injured were unable to break through the wreckage and remained under the debris.

The incident came to light yesterday morning when Imran, son of Younus Hawlader, went there in search of his father, as he did not return home on Wednesday night.

He immediately informed the local people about it. The locals recovered the bodies of the construction workers and rescued the injured from the under the debris.

The injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
