55 fishermen missing after10 trawlers capsize in Bay


At least 55 fishermen went missing after 10 trawlers with 165 fishermen aboard capsized in the Bay on Tuesday.

The missing fishermen hail from Barisal, Chittagong, Pirojpur, Cox's Bazar, Patuakhali and Barguna districts.

Local sources said the trawlers sank, as they were hit by huge waves while fishing within the Bangladesh territorial waters in Gangamoti, Dhalchar, Asharchar, Pakkhidia and Tekdia area of the Bay.

Of the 165 fishermen, 110 were rescued from the Bay till Wednesday night with the help of other trawlers. But there was no trace of the 55 others.

The capsized fishing trawlers are FB Arafat, Rana, Autithi, Mohima, Zahirul, Abu, Khalil, Moumi, Rahim and Abbas.

In last one week, at least 18 fishing trawlers capsized in the Bay amid bad weather that left 75 fishermen missing.
