12 militants acquitted of Natore jatra blast case

The 12 Islamic militants held in Natore district were relieved of the charges for the bomb attack on a jatra show (theater) at Boraigram upazila.

The district judge, Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, acquitted them of the case on Wednesday following a police prayer.

The arrestees include Forman Ali, Shahidul Islam, Alauddin, Anwarul Islam, Isahaq Ali, Ahsan Habib, Saiful Islam, Muhammad Ali, Abdur Razzak, Rafiqul Islam, Mokhlesur Rahman, and Abdul Baki.

They are members of the Islamic outfit Jama'atul Mujahidin Bangladesh, run by Bangla Bhai's spiritual leader Abdur Rahman.

Police arrested them on February 1 while they were taking training at

Shadhupara Ahle Hadith Jame mosque in Natore.

Unidentified miscreants bombed a Jatra programme at Garfa High School field in Boraigram upazila on the night of January 15, leaving three Jatra artists injured.

Police implicated the militants in the bomb attack case following a countrywide militant programme against Jatra shows, said the police.

Investigation officer Mansur Ali, in a petition submitted to the district judge, said the militants, found not guilty in the investigation, could be relieved of the case.
