BNP picks Sirajul

The ruling BNP has nominated Kazi Sirajul Islam to contest as coalition candidate the by-election to Faridpur-1 parliamentary seat that he lost for floor crossing. A meeting of the BNP Parliamentary Board, chaired by Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, gave him nomination after interviewing six aspirants at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) yesterday afternoon, meeting sources said. Voting for the by-election in the constituency (Alfadanga-Boalmari-Modhukhali) is scheduled for August 30. The seat fell vacant after Kazi Siraj, who was elected MP on the Awami League ticket, joined the BNP on June 4. Those who faced interview are Kazi Sirajul Islam, Shah Mohammad Abu Zafar, Rakib Hasan Chowdhury, Mia Sadequr Rahman, Khandoker Nasirul Islam and Moniruzzaman Monir. Members of the BNP Parliamentary Board present at the meeting are Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Khandokar Mosharraf Hossain, Abdul Matin Chowdhury, RA Gani, Tanvir Ahmed Siddiqui, Moudud Ahmed, Khandokar Mahbubuddin Ahmed and KM Obaidur Rahman.
