Robinho only returned to the side on Sunday after his club agreed to sell him to Real Madrid for $30 million. The prodigious talent had refused to train or play during the drawn out negotiations with the Spanish club because he said he was not in the right frame of mind to play in Brazil.

The 21-year-old, who will leave Santos at the end of the month, was sent clear by Giovanni's flicked pass in the 51st minute and scored with a delicate chip over the advancing goalkeeper Clemer from the edge of the penalty area.

It was his first goal for Santos since the Libertadores Cup tie against Universidad de Chile on May 25.
